This is a 5-year-old Barbados rum from the Planteray range , which was matured for 3 years in ex-bourbon casks and then transported to France to Cognac Ferrand, where it was matured for 2 years in ex-cognac casks! Very good indeed.
Double maturation is Planteray's signature technique - it gives the spirit a remarkable roundness and structure during the 5 years of maturation.
Authentic Barbados style from Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery, founded in 1893 by George Stade, a brilliant distiller with many patents to his credit.
On the nose, the rum smells intensely of calfskin and caramel. Hints of cinnamon and desiccated coconut and also a little vanilla. Dried banana develops. The palate is surprisingly sweet to start, with molasses and a hint of leather in the foreground alongside orange peel and salted butter, new spices. Becomes very sweet in the finish. Lots of fiery spices emerge on the tail.
Bottled at 40 % alcohol with a volume of 0,7 l.
