Ardbeg 14 Year Old Anthology The Unicorn’s Tale
Introducing the second legendary edition of the Ardbeg Anthology collection. Aged for 14 years in a combination of aromatic Madeira casks and classic ex-bourbon casks, this rare Ardbeg is inspired by the story of the incredible Unicorn of Islay.
One dark night after a celebration at the distillery, the clatter of hooves echoed around the courtyard. Those who aren't too keen on mythical tales will tell you it was Rory, the distillery's greedy Shetland pony - known for his evil nature and devilish appetite for sweet treats. Others believe something else was behind it.
The distillery staff set out to investigate. As they rounded a corner, they saw a horse-like creature rearing up against the full moon. However, a horn was sticking out of its head, creating a chilling silhouette. The following day, rumours spread of a sighting of Scotland's national animal... the unicorn.
Now, of course, questions were pouring in to the staff about the overturned ice cream truck, Rory's unlocked gate, and the strange looking horn. But they know what they saw! Sure, a pony with greedy appetites is likely, but Islay is a mysterious place.
Like the myth itself, this whisky may seem sweet, but it hides an ominous and smoky undertone... not to be underestimated.
The Unicorn's Tale is unfiltered and is 46 %.
The aroma of the whisky is rich, sweet, aromatic and fruity, with baked banana bread and syrupy sponge pudding filling the senses. Notes of jam give way to a distinctive whiff of burning cedar wood. A drop of water releases an abundance of tropical fruit. Eucalyptus oil mingles with the subtle aromatic smoke.
Spicy notes of lime and sweet peach appear on the tongue. A burst of rich smoked fruit and baked bread gives way to antiseptic pastilles, creosote and anise. Smooth barley malt combines with nutmeg and peat smoke.
